Atresplayer, Atresmedia's Spanish over-the-top (OTT) and video-on-demand (VOD) platform, has been launched on Google's Chromecast, completing its availability on the multiscreen scene.

atreschromeThe video app, which was already available for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, now takes its free-to-air (FTA) content to the popular dongle, moving into the smart TV arena. Through the HDMI connection, Atresplayer users will be able to play the app on a TV screen via tablets, smartphones and computers.

Aiming to increase its portfolio of supported devices, Atresmedia launched the platform on Samsung smart TVs in July, later adding it to the Xbox One.

According to comScore figures, the online player has 2.5 million unique visitors a month and has served up 400 million videos. The app is also among the most downloaded of its kind, with almost three million downloads from Apple, Android and Windows stores.

Although the growing online TV and VOD market is very competitive in Spain, Atresplayer has 1.5 million registered users and has been the most-used TV platform on computers since the beginning of 2014. According to the group, the platform's main hooks are its HD features, the ability to watch the original version of content with subtitles, plus the ability to download content and watch it offline.
