Over-the-top (OTT) and video-on-demand (VOD) platform Qubit has launched onto the Colombian market during the second edition of the NexTV Summit Colombia & Andean in Bogotá.

nextvsummitThe event, organised by Dataxis, ends today (20 November) after two days dedicated to the Colombian and Andean pay-TV sector.

According to NexTV, the Argentinean-based Qubit will focus its local efforts on achieving partnerships with fixed and mobile telephony companies, cable operators, banks, ISPs, consumer device manufacturers and cooperatives so they can offer the platform to their customers.

"Since Netflix's arrival in Latin America at the end of 2011, the TV business in the region has been preparing for competition in the access to video streaming through every device. Netflix has grown to 3.3 million subscribers by the end of June 2014, turning into one of the top five pay-TV operators in Latin America, following América Móvil (Claro), DirecTV, Televisa Group and Clarín Group," said Ariel Barlaro, Dataxis' VP for Latin America. "Colombia exceeded 260,000 SVOD OTT subs by the end of June and there will be more than a million-and-a-half SVOD OTT subscribers by 2018."

"Qubit chose Colombia due to the country's strategic location in the region and the potential for closing businesses," said Qubit.
