Aiming to fend off the threat of Netflix and other online video rivals, Amazon is gearing up to add 4K fare to its Prime Instant Video service, which will be available at no extra cost to Prime subscribers.

amazon"We want to be the best entertainment destination for customers," said Michael Paull, VP of Amazon Digital Video. "We're confident that offering UltraHD content, whether it's a TV series or a film, will help create the ultimate viewing experience and can't wait to start making it available this year."

Upcoming 4K titles include the Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga: Cheek To Cheek LIVE! Concert, along with original series Transparent, Alpha House and the soon-to-debut Mozart in the Jungle series.

"We're excited to unveil even more titles that Prime members and customers can watch in UltraHD later this year and into next year," said Paull. "Amazon Prime will have access to a great selection of UltraHD content on Prime Instant Video at no additional cost."
