Set-top box maker Pace has earned the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ENERGY STAR rating for the D5001 Ultra DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway.

The device is the first DOCSIS 3.0 modem to receive an ENERGY STAR certification in the category for small network equipment (SNE).

The gateway uses 24 bonded DOCSIS channels to deliver dual-band Wi-Fi and integrated MoCA 2.0 coax cable networking to connect wireless set-top boxes, media servers, IP set-top boxes, computers, tablets, smartphones and gaming consoles.

"As a company at the forefront of digital TV and broadband technology, being an environmentally responsible business is extremely important to Pace," said Robert Turner, approvals manager at Pace Americas.

"We are delighted to be the first company to launch an ENERGY STAR qualified DOCSIS 3.0 gateway to add to our long list of 'firsts' in energy efficiency. Environmental responsibility delivers value to our customers and our business. We fully appreciate the partnership with the EPA, and look forward to continued collaboration to support energy-efficient design and innovation across our entire portfolio of products."
