Nascent Nigerian pay-TV platform African Cable TV (ACTV) has added eight premium channels from FOX International Channels (FIC).

FOX, FOX Crime, FX, National Geographic Gold, FOX Movies, FOX Sports, FOX Sports 2 and Baby TV are now available to up to 18,000 subscribers via ACTV's direct-to-home (DTH) service. Series such as The Walking Dead, The Simpsons and Wayward Pines will form part of the content.

"We are delighted to announce our partnership with ACTV in Nigeria. The West African market is growing rapidly, and is full of possibilities for our brands and business strategy," said Hannelie Bekker, managing director, FOX International Channels Africa.

Godfrey Orkeh, CEO, ACTV, added: "Our vision is to ensure that low- and middle-income Nigerians can enjoy premium pay-TV at a value price. That is why we are delighted to welcome the FOX portfolio of channels to our platform. FOX is known for its high quality programming, and its rich array of offerings means that there is something for every demographic".

The move extends FIC's reach in Africa to more than 17.3 million subscribers, according to the 21st Century Fox-owned company.

ACTV, pronounced 'active,' will also offer local content: Rana for Hausa entertainment, Ibile for Yoruba entertainment, Oji for Igbo entertainment, and for the first time in Africa, an exclusive pidgin channel Area TV.
