India's Star Network is to launch a free video-on-demand (VOD) platform, providing over 100 of its own television shows after their live broadcast.

The on-demand content, which will be streamed at 64kbps, will comprise movies, sports and shows from each of Star's channels, including regional channels in six languages.

In the launch month, the network will provide blockbuster movies such as Kick, Dabangg, Jai Ho and Bang Bang. In sports, the main focus will be on cricket, from the India versus Australia series leading up to the World Cup.

The content will be available without subscription, with advertising providing the funding for Star TV.

The move comes two years after the launch of Zee's VOD platform Ditto TV, and a year after Sony launched Sony LIV.
