Dailymotion taps Unified Streaming for live online video
| 05 December 2014
The Dailymotion online video platform has standardised on cross-platform technologies provider Unified Streaming to support an extension of the scale of its business.
unifiedStBoasting 128 million monthly unique visitors on its website, almost 300 million people having seen a video through its video player monthly, and over 2.5 billion video views every month, Dailymotion claims to be the largest European online video platform and the most popular European site in the world.
Yet due to what it calls a 'significant' increase in demand for live streaming, Dailymotion needed to design a new live platform that was more scalable and reliable and which offered high performance streaming software with a small footprint.
"Scalability, reliability and robustness are the key when it comes to live streaming," explained Dailymotion live project manager Vincent Colombet. "Unified Streaming software met all these requirements and that's why we chose Unified Streaming solution to be part of our live platform. The Unified Streaming team has been very receptive to our needs and suggestions and it's a pleasure to work with them."
The Unified Streaming software was found to be able to handle hundreds of simultaneous ingest streams under various conditions. Moreover Unified Streaming adds that Dailymotion now has a future-proof, multi-functional, performance-optimised live platform that can ingest a variety of formats but also offers protection of live streams using DRM.
Both parties expect more to come as part of their on-going development.
