Tanzania's free-to-air channel Independent Television Limited (ITV) is to be carried on DStv digital platform, following a tie-up between the channel's owner IPP Media and the sub-Saharan pay-TV operator MultiChoice.

The channel will be available on all DStv subscription bouquets, including Bomba, Family, Compact, Compact Plus and Premium.

Joyce Mhaville, managing director, ITV said the companies had been working towards the partnership for some time.
"The opportunities presented by this deal are of benefit to both companies as well as our viewers, especially at this period where Tanzania has migrated from analogue to digital television," said Mhaville. "ITV has quality local content which is relevant to Tanzanians, while DStv will enable us to expand our reach and quality of signal."

Stephen Isaboke, regional director East Africa, MultiChoice said: "MultiChoice is committed to providing viewers with a wide range of channels including both local and international channels and programming relevant to our subscribers. Based on ITV's rapid growth and popularity, this deal is perfect as it expands our carriage of local content."
