The Foxtel/Network 7 joint venture Presto Entertainment has agreed content deals with HBO and Showtime for its new Australian subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service.

HBO hit TV shows The Sopranos, Entourage, The Wire, True Blood and Boardwalk Empire, along with Girls, Veep, Band of Brothers and The Pacific, will be available exclusively via the online streaming platform in 2015.

Australian SVOD rights to Showtime series' Dexter, The Borgias, Californication, Deadwood, and Ray Donovan have also been acquired by Presto.

"We're pulling out all the stops to ensure we have a compelling line up of television content available for our subscribers when Presto Entertainment goes live and are thrilled to announce these amazing hits from HBO and Showtime," said Shaun James, director, Presto.

"Aussies will see these hit shows first, and in HBO's case exclusively, on Presto, and we know that these TV gems will delight our subscribers."

Presto Entertainment, which will run alongside the existing Presto Movie streaming service, says it will reveal its launch date and make more announcements on its television content line-up in the coming weeks.

It recently unveiled a host of home-grown TV content along with the British titles Mr Selfridge, Lewis, A Touch of Frost and Rosemary and Thyme, and the forthcoming US crime drama Aquarius.
