RTVE sees VOD growth while users migrate to mobile screens

Now offering 40 apps for smartphones and tablets, RTVE says it is seeing an increase in migration of video-on-demand (VOD) users from computers to mobile screens, a trend which has powered growth in the digital division of the Spanish public broadcaster.

rtveBy the end of 2014, RTVE.es had 18.6 million unique visitors, 15% more than the previous year. Nearly 2.7 million users connected to the VOD platform from their tablets and 5.8 million connected from their smartphones, meaning that 46% of traffic came from mobile devices. In addition, RTVE's apps gathered 2.4 million users by the end of the year, including smart TV and console apps such as Clan TV's app for PS4, launched in December.

The children's channel is one of the most important drivers of growth for RTVE's VOD platform and other digital TV services like the hybrid HbbTV platform, which allows young viewers to create their own schedules on a connected DTT screen.

During the year, RTVE's VOD platform delivered 246 million videos and 9.4 million audios, plus 85.6 million plays of live streamed broadcasts.

Looking to content, the network's own productions were among those gaining the most audience interest, led by Isabel, Įguila Roja and Prim, as well as the Christmas special show of MasterChef Junior.
