Following the growth it experienced during 2014, Claro believes its streaming platforms Claro Video and Claro Música will see a substantial increase in subs during 2015 to near 125,000 customers from the current 30,000.
"Claro is making it easier to reach new video and music technologies," explained Vady Guerra, product and multinational strategy director at Claro. "During the second half of 2014, we have seen subs figures triple as mobile networks such as LTE have become more popular among Chileans. Currently, we are getting over 3,000 new customers for each service every month."
While not so long ago these streaming services weren't in higih demand, the boom seen during the last months of 2014 has led Claro to believe that over-the-top (OTT) and video-on-demand (VOD) platforms will soon become strong rivals to traditional pay-TV.
Claro Video is operated by DLA, a company affiliated to América Móvil, and operates in most Latin American countries, giving audiences a wide VOD catalogue of series, movies, documentaries and children's content.
The OTT platform enables viewers to watch 70% of its content with a regular subscription, while the rest is considered premium and demands a higher price. Inside its premium section Claro Video has recently offered films available on-demand just three or four weeks after their cinema premieres.
