América Móvil, DirecTV share pay-TV lead in LATAM

América Móvil now has the largest pay-TV subscriber base in Latin America through its various platforms and subsidiaries, closely followed by DirecTV which targets the region through direct-to-home (DTH) satellite services.

According to latest report from Dataxis on the Latin American pay-TV market, América Móvil had exceeded the 14.6 million mark by the end of Q3 2014, while DirecTV accounted for over 12.3 million subs.

In the year from Q3 2013, América Móvil managed to increase its subs more than DirecTV, adding 1.4 million subs compared to one million.

Both companies have their largest operations in Brazil - the region's largest market with 19.4 million subs - where América Móvil has 6.5 million clients on Net, and DirecTV has 5.6 million through Sky Brazil.

América Móvil's second largest operation is also in Brazil, Claro Brazil, followed by Claro Colombia as the third largest.

With Latin America's pay-TV subs having surpassed the 66-million mark by the end of the third quarter, América Móvil and DirecTV combined have over 40% of the market share, followed by national platforms such as Televisa in Mexico with 9.4 million subs and Clarín in Argentina.
