Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Latin America is to launch several multi-platform apps with video-on-demand (VOD) content for all its channels operating in the region, althouth it isn't currently planning to offer a general streaming and TV everywhere platform.
viacomAccording to the website NexTV Latam, some programmes will be available live through the new set of apps, but Viacom is not planning to offer its entire portfolio via streaming as has been done by other production houses such as HBO and FOX, intending to keep focusing on traditional pay-TV.
"Our priority is still the pay-TV business and non-linear programming comes in second place," said Pierluigi Gazzolo, VIMN The Americas' president and executive in charge of Nickelodeon. "In order to succeed in both platforms, it is very important to have a strategy which satisfies every brand and delivers more content options to our customers."
Viacom is currently broadcasting five channels in the region, namely Nickelodeon, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central and the recently launched Paramount Comedy. The company has been also operating a VOD app for Nickelodeon since 2013 under the same model which it now plans to extend to the rest of the brands.
"We have to deliver a limited content offer on-demand which opens a door to our linear content," added Gazzolo. "In this way we can balance the consumption through the different platforms. And we have content enough to satisfy the various options."
