Along with European research and development institutions, such as Pompeu Fabra University, German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle and the Leibniz University of Hannover, VSN is working on the development of a new technology to identify and aggregate data from various sources, including both online and traditional video.

eumssilogoThrough the project, Event Understanding through Multimodal Stream Interpretation (EUMSSI), companies and institutions are working to develop technologies for extracting data presented as unstructured information in videos, images, audios, speeches and text, and dealing with information of varying degrees of granularity.

Given a certain topic, the interpretation platform will, during the editing process, identify which multimedia items might be of interest for journalists and offer a list of categorised items.

"The EUMSSI project is a great chance for us to collaborate - with our resources and know-how - with some of the most well known European research institutions on the development of a technology that can simplify and enhance journalists' work," said Jordi Utiel, VSN's president and CEO. "We feel the results of this project will work perfectly with our complete portfolio of broadcast solutions and improve the quality of the content of our users and clients".
