The large-size LCD panels market finished 2014 on a strong note, with shipments reaching 21.83 million units, according to new research from WitsView.

witsviewThe research division of TrendForce found that BOE and CSOT led the market in shipments for large-size LCD panels for December 2014, with each having about 5% increase compared with the previous month.

The analyst noted that while both companies did very well with their 32- and 55-inch panel shipments, BOE had been particularly successful with its 21.5 and 23.6-inch panels.

BOE and CSOT, also Korean and Taiwanese firms, such as LGD, AUO, and Innolux, conversely faced the unavoidable decline in the same period, added Winnie Chen, assistant research for WitsView.

LGD in particular had a sharp 20% fall in monthly shipments caused by weak demands for tablets. SDC was the only exception to the negative trend, with its monthly shipments staying the same as November.

Looking to panel shipment prospects for the year, WitsView forecasts that for January 2015 brand name TV vendors will stock up on TV panels in response to an unexpected rise in demand during the supposedly off-peak season. Yet it also estimates month-on-month shipments to fall slightly by 1.3%.
