As it ramps up its slate of original features Netflix has announced at Robert Redford's event that it has signed up a content deal with a renown independent film company.
The SVOD leader has signed a deal with existing content supplier Duplass Brothers Productions whereby it will finance four films that will be offered to Netflix subscribers after what the parties call a 'short' theatrical window.
Speaking to well known film production news agency Deadline.com Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos said: "This is just the latest step in our very long relationship with the Duplass Brothers...We've been working with them almost since the very beginning, when we were red-envelope delivery. Independent film has always been a big part of Netflix, and the reason we do things like the Adam Sandler deal is so we can do things like this as well."
