BBC gains new Premier League football highlights rights

The BBC's flagship football show Match Of The Day, now in its 50th year, will be showing English Premier League football until the 2018/2019 season.

MatchOF THE DayFending off strong challenges, not least from arch-rival ITV, the BBC is reported to have acquired the EPL's latest highlights package for 204 million over three years. The new deal covers the weekend programming of Match Of The Day; its Sunday morning repeat MOTD2; Football Focus; plus a new midweek magazine show to air Wednesday nights on BBC Two and BBC Two HD. All of the BBC's Premier League programmes will be available on the BBC iPlayer.
