Univision appoints new VPs for programming, news

Hispanic media company Univision continues to implement changes at the top, appointing a new executive VP of programming for the Univision Network and an executive VP and executive director of news.
Sandra Smester will be responsible for programming at Univision Network, based in Miami, and will report to Alberto Ciurana, president of programming and content for Univision Communications Inc (UCI).
Smester is highly regarded in the industry for her understanding of Spanish-language content and US Hispanic audiences, which has helped cement the network's leadership position. Today she oversees the entire programming block of the Univision Network, one of the top five networks in the US regardless of language.
Daniel Coronell has been promoted to executive VP and executive director of news. He will continue reporting directly to Isaac Lee, president of news & digital at UCI, and CEO of Fusion.
During his tenure in the company, always related to the news department, Univision News has been recognised with major awards for excellence in journalism, including the duPont Award, the Peabody Award, the Walter Cronkite Award, the Gracie Award, the IRE Award and two King of Spain International Journalism Awards.
