Gabon Telecom, the Maroc Telecom subsidiary, is to launch a video-on-demand (VOD) service, the company has announced.
Gabon Telecom currently offers fixed, mobile and Internet services, and in October 2014 was the first company in Central Africa to launch 4G services.
Maroc Telecom has made huge investments to facilitate the launch of 4G, said chairman and CEO of the company, Abdeslam Ahizoune, following talks with the Gabon President Ali Bongo to outline plans for its subsidiary's new services. Details of Gabon Telecom's VOD service are yet to be made public.
"This is part of the efforts to contribute to the development of Gabon, particularly in terms of telecommunications and ICT," Ahizoune told reporters.
UAE telecommunications operator Etisalat is the majority (53.09%) shareholder in Maroc Telecom, while the Moroccan Government holds 30% of the company.
