French broadcaster TV5MONDE is looking to tap the potential of the East after inking a multi-year carriage agreement with Russian DTH platform Tricolor TV.
TV5MONDE is now available with Russian subtitles on the main satellite, cable and IPTV platforms in Russia, reaching over 15.4 million households in the territory.
The channel, subtitled in Russian since 2008, claims what it says is 'strong anchorage' into cinema, with Sundays and Thursdays dedicated to films. These include traditional French-speaking movies during Cannes Film Festival in May and cycles around major actors and directors throughout the year. The channel is also intended for anyone in Russia who likes the French lifestyle. To serve this audience, two evenings have been specifically dedicated to what it called 'the French touch'.
Commenting on the deal, TV5MONDE worldwide distribution and marketing director Jean-Luc Cronel, said: "We are delighted to have reached this agreement with Tricolor TV that completes our existence within the pay-TV offerings of the country and reinforces our positioning in the Russian audiovisual landscape."
