CABSAT 2015: Azam Media adds Eutelsat capacity to expand African pay-TV offer

Bakhresa Group-owned Azam Media is ramping up satellite capacity in Tanzania through a new transponder leased on the EUTELSAT 7B satellite.
AzamComplementing capacity used on the co-positioned EUTELSAT 7A satellite, the new contract will allow AzamTV to host new services for the growing direct-to-home (DTH) pay-TV platform. Launched 18 months ago, AzamTV already counts 200,000 subscribers in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya with over 50 channels.
The new capacity will enable AzamTV to extend its services to Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, South Sudan and Zimbabwe with additional content. These will include the new Azam Reloaded package comprising a full decoder/dish kit for $55 and three package options: the Azam Pure subscription offering with three home-grown channels and popular free-to-air channels; the Azam Plus option with a monthly subscription of $8, comprising an additional selection of over 35 international channels; Azam Play which at a monthly subscription of $10, includes premium content such as telenovelas, reality shows, education and dedicated football club channels including Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Further expansion is planned using the company's studio complex and headend facility in Dar es Salaam.
