Al Jazeera English launches in Colombia

Al Jazeera English is to air in Colombia through Claro's cable and direct-to-home (DTH) platforms, the Qatar-based network has announced.
"This marks another key signpost for Al Jazeera as we continue in our expansion plans to make our content more accessible across the globe," said Abdulla Al Najjar, Al Jazeera's executive director of marketing & distribution. "This is an important market for us and we are extremely excited to be airing in Colombia."
The English-language network will be distributed through all Claro's packages. The telecom operator, owned by América Móvil, is currently leading Colombia's pay-TV sector, ahead of DIRECTV and the recently merged UNE-Tigo, with nearly three million subs. The brand also offers phone and Internet services, and triple-play packages including three TV packages and up to 50 HD channels.
Through its multiple channels, Al Jazeera is broadcast to over 310 million unique households in over 150 countries worldwide and is located in 82 bureaus around the world. Al Jazeera English is delivered to over 270 million households in more than 140 countries worldwide and has over 460 editorial staff globally.
