Piracy does reap its rewards and sensing a TV treasure trove, A+E Networks has acquired the exclusive linear UK and Africa TV rights for the STARZ Original series, Black Sails.
The acquisition marks the first A+E Networks UK deal with US media company Starz Worldwide Distribution and the first season of the 8x60 multi Emmy-award winning series, first created by and aired on premium cable network STARZ in the US, will run on the HISTORY channel in the countries in the summer.
The series features Toby Stephens in the lead role as Captain Flint and was created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine and executive produced by Hollywood blockbuster feature film director/producer Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Chris Symes and Dan Shotz also serve as executive producers.
"Black Sails is a thrilling drama with a treasure trove of colourful characters that really brings to life a remarkable and provocative period of history," said Rachel Job, Director of Programming for HISTORY at A+E Networks UK, announcing the acquisition. "Following the huge success of Vikings, we are really pleased to bring viewers another premium drama to HISTORY."
