Tata Sky makes Elemental choice for 4KTV

The rapidly expanding Tata Sky, which in the last few weeks launched a host of new channels in India, has turned to Elemental Technologies to enable video delivery for its new 4K/Ultra HD service.

elemetalTataOn 2 March 2015, the leading direct-to-home (DTH) operator company, a Tata Sons and 21st Century Fox joint venture, announced that it would launch the first commercial 4KTV video services in the subcontinent. Crucially it introduced the service's 4K/Ultra HD set-top box just ahead of the on-going cricket World Cup which has been watched by vast and indeed record audiences in India.

Tata Sky has now revealed that it is using software from Elemental Technologies to process Ultra HD live linear content in high-efficiency video coding (HEVC/H.265) for delivery to the devices. Selected by Tata Sky based on its reliable delivery of high quality live 4K content in HEVC, Elemental is the sole video processing software selected for the subcontinent's first commercial 4K service delivered to end-users.
