Nigeria's broadcasting commission NBC has chosen software company Inview Technologies to supply the national common set-top box (STB) system ahead of the country's migration to digital TV.

Inview will be responsible for the conditional access system (CAS), electronic programme guide (EPG), the annual digital content access fee (DCAF) and value added services for Nigeria's national digital TV transmission (DTT) system.

The UK-based company will collaborate with MTS Communications, a consortium of Nigerian broadcasters, to help provide Freeview and a free satellite-provided DTT service in Nigeria.

Emeka Mba, director general of NBC, said the Inview deal was a culmination of many months of consultation and a crucial step towards the digital switch over in Nigeria.

The commission, he said, hopes to create the biggest digital TV platform in both Nigeria and across the African continent.

Nick Markham, CEO, Inview Technologies, said it was a privilege to be part of the digital switchover project in Nigeria. Speaking at the contract announcement, he assured NBC that Inview would work tirelessly to fulfil its part of the agreement.
