Chinese video-on-demand service YOU On Demand has formed a partnership with licensed over-the-top (OTT) platform operator Galaxy Internet Television Company, a joint venture comprising China National Radio, Jiangsu Television Station, Baidu's iQiyi, and Dr Peng Telecom Media Group.
The VOD provider's YOU Hollywood service will launch in April on all Galaxy Internet Television (GITV) platforms in the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu. Programming and operations will be jointly managed by YOU and GITV.
"As YOU On Demand continues its commitment to provide premium and diverse entertainment to consumers in China, I am very pleased to announce this partnership with OTT provider, GITV. We are very honoured to be able to partner with the wide array of members that comprise the GITV joint venture," said Weicheng Liu, CEO, YOU On Demand.
"This second partnership with a licensed OTT platform operator will allow YOU On Demand to further access and expand its reach to an even wider universe of smart TVs and OTT devices."
YOU On Demand expanded from cable TV to OTT initially through a deal in September 2012 with Future TV, a subsidiary of China Network Television (CNTV). Future TV was the first Internet television platform approved by China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT).
