Bangladesh's communications regulator has issued a tender for the delivery of a satellite to provide telecommunications and broadcasting services from 2018.
The geosynchronous satellite system will have 40 transponders – 26 in Ku-band and 14 C-band – and cover both Bangladesh and the surrounding region of south Asia.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) anticipates the satellite's launch date in late 2017.
The tender document also calls for the supply of all associated ground sub-systems for the provision of communications and direct-to-home (DTH) television services.
The final date for submission of tenders for the Bangabandhu Satellite Launching Project is 2 June 2015.
The move follows the country's agreement in September 2014 on bilateral cooperation with India in the field of space technology.
