Gold Rush drives Discovery to best ever prime time quarter

Discovery Channel saw the best quarter in its history during the prime time slot in the first quarter of 2015, in both total viewers P2+ delivery and persons 25-54 rating in Live + 3, largely due to the success of the reality TV show Gold Rush.

Q1 2015 prime time ended with Discovery delivering 1.652 total viewers P2+ (up 9% against Q1 2014) with 0.843 persons 25-54 rating (up 4% on Q1 2014). The channel also finished as the quarter's fifth cable network in prime time among persons 25-54.
Discovery's prime time ratings growth was balanced when it came to the sexes, with men 25-54 and women 25-54 both up 4% on the previous year's quarter. The network has also made major strides in a wide range of demos including millennials, core viewers, children, and families as the network climbed the demo rankers among women 25-54 (No 12 for the quarter, up five ranking positions), persons 18-34 (No ten, up five positions) and persons six-11 (No 12, up eight) compared with Q1 2014.
Gold Rush topped all unscripted shows in key demos on cable in Q1 2015 with persons 25-54 and 18-49 and men 25-54/18-49/18-34, while becoming No 7 on cable among women 25-54. It was also the No 2 unscripted series in all of television for men 25-54/18-49/18-34, just beaten by The Voice.
Another Discovery Channel reality show, Alaskan Bush People, was a top three unscripted show on cable in Q1 2015 with HH (No 2), persons 25-54 (No 3), men 25-54 (No 2), men 18-49 (No 2), men 18-34 (No 3) and total viewers P2+ (No 2) delivery. It also ranked among the top ten among women 25-54 for the quarter (No 9).
Among the top ten unscripted shows in the quarter, Discovery claimed three among persons 25-54 (Gold Rush, Alaskan Bush People and Street Outlaws), five among men 25-54 (Gold Rush, Alaskan Bush People, Street Outlaws, Bering Sea Gold and Moonshiners)) and two among women 25-54 (Gold Rush and Alaskan Bush People).
