Technology provider NeuLion, which specialises in digital video broadcasting, distribution and monetization, and Millicom have announced a partnership to launch TigoSports, a new over-the-top (OTT) sports app video service for smartphone subscribers to Tigo Bolivia.
By delivering its exclusive rights to the Bolivian premier football league through the app, Millicom aims to develop its digital lifestyle strategy by engaging Tigo customers with this high quality on-the-go video streaming service.
Through the app, which is available for Android and iOS, Tigo Bolivia subscribers will be able to access exclusive highlights, live matches, and news on-the-go on their smartphones. The app will feature more than 130 matches across all 12 teams both live and on-demand, the complete league schedule, highlights and video content, scores and updates with the ability to customise notifications and more for real-time access on-the-go.
The app is powered by the NeuLion Platform, the end-to-end portfolio of video management, delivery and monetisation tools, including HEVC technology to drive 4K video streaming.
"Partnering with NeuLion lets us deliver a best in class sports viewing experience to our subscribers on mobile devices," said Jorge Rincon, Millicom's head of mobile digital services for Latin America. "The full service NeuLion Platform allows us to take our TigoSports TV Channel content to mobile devices and give our consumers seamless, high quality live and on-demand access to the premier football league in Bolivia".
"Mobile viewing continues to sky rocket, as evidenced by the 87% of viewing on mobile devices during the Univision Deportes World Cup soccer matches," said Chris Wagner, EVP of NeuLion. "Having access to live sports on-the-go and being able to watch seamlessly across multiple devices is a viewer must today".
The NeuLion Platform has already been deployed across a growing number of OTT and TV everywhere services through partnerships with the biggest brands in the world of live and on-demand sports and entertainment content, including the NFL, NBA, NHL and UFC.
