Live over-the-top (OTT) broadcasting continues to gain momentum in Spain, especially of sporting events, with Nagra powering Canal+'s broadcast of El Clasico on nearly 400,000 connected devices.

Nagra, which provides multiscreen TV solutions, announced that its MediaLive solution enabled record adoption of Canal+ Spain's OTT platform, Yomvi, during the last match between Real Madrid and Barcelona. Nearly 30% more devices streamed Ronaldo and Messi's thousandth confrontation compared to previous El Clasico editions, representing an estimated audience of half a million people.

Moreover, Nagra MediaLive continues to enable steady growth and further device reach for the OTT service with the addition of the PlayStation3 and PlayStation4 consoles to the operator's supported device line-up.

"Yomvi is gaining more and more traction with viewers and is available on more devices than ever before; we're very pleased to see how quickly the service is being accepted and used by consumers," said Adolfo Remacha, CTO of Canal+ Spain. "We believe OTT is and will continue to be a key driver for growth over the next few years and we will continue, in parallel, to invest in our platform with the ultimate goal of providing the best viewing experience to consumers thanks to solutions like Nagra MediaLive".

"Canal+ Spain has paved the way in defining the future of multiscreen TV with one of the leading OTT platforms in Europe, and we're excited to be a part of its success," said Jean-Michel Puiatti, SVP multiscreen product unit for Nagra. "TV consumption is evolving, and delivering multiscreen TV has rapidly become a must-have for pay-TV service providers."

Powered by MediaLive, Yomvi is a pay-TV multiscreen platform supporting the growth of live and on-demand content streaming to multiple devices for Canal+ Spain, including computers, iOS and Android devices, Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and 4 and Samsung and LG smart TV sets.
