Star India is awaiting a licence from the Indian Government to launch its second Tamil-language general entertainment channel Vijay Plus.
When launched, it will join sister channel Star Vijay broadcasting in the southern India states Kerala and Karnataka, as well as nationally via major direct-to-home (DTH) satellite and cable TV operators.
The channel, which was initially due to air in December 2014, is expected to carry a mix of new fiction and older shows from Vijay TV.
As well as Tamil content, Star India offers regional TV for Bengali and Marathi speakers, and will add four Telugu language channels to its regional offer, once its acquisition of Maa Television Network is approved.
The 21st Century Fox-owned broadcaster's affiliate channels include Star Jalsha, Jalsha Movies, Star Pravah, Asianet, Asianet Plus, Suvarna, Suvarna Plus and Vijay, while Hindi entertainment channels include Star Gold, Channel V, Star World, Star Movies, Star Utsav, Life OK, Movies OK and Star Plus.
