European streaming service Wuaki.tv has announced a new content deal with Icon Film Distribution to increase focus on high quality independent movies in the UK and Ireland.

The agreement with Icon, one of the UK's fastest growing independent distributors, will immediately add a wide selection of library films, including Drive, 21 Grams, Precious, A Single Man and We Were Soldiers, as well as new titles such as A Most Violent Year, which will be released in May.

Both companies aim to deliver an extended proposition for fans of independent movies, who can opt to watch the content at home on their smart TV, games console, computer or Google Chromecast, or on the move with a tablet or smartphone.

“We’re keen to support local and independent films and we see this agreement as a great step towards offering our users an enhanced movie and TV service”, said Simon Homent, European content director for Wuaki.tv. “Wuaki.tv's European growth throughout 2014 and 2015 is down to great partnerships, excellent content and, of course, our dedicated customers.”

“We want to give film fans the opportunity to see the widest possible range of Icon films through the best providers in the UK & Ireland”, added Ian Dawson, CEO at Icon Film Distribution. “We recognise Wuaki.tv as a forward-thinking and growing service and are delighted to be able to make our films available to their growing customer base. Our partnership with Wuaki’s video-on-demand service, enabling customers to watch our movies at home or on the go, was a great fit for Icon Film Distribution”.
