BBC LATAM, Hispanic US launches SVOD mobile app for parents, kids

BBC Worlwide Latin America is to launch a mobile app for its CBeebies channel including a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service.

cbeebies1The app is designed to to deliver complete episodes in Spanish language in addition to educational games and information for parents and teachers.It targets an audience on-the-move, specially young parents which are used to play its favourite content on mobile devices. It will enable parents and educators to play content for pre-school kids on mobile screens.The platform is available for smartphones and tablets on iOS and Android for a montly price of $4.99, although there is a trial week for free.

"We are constantly looking for new ways of connecting with our audience, whose loyalty is key for our business", explained Fred Medina , executive VP and managing director at BBC Worldwide Latin America and the US Hispanic market. "The new app allows us to expand CBeebies beyond the TV screen, delivering content to a new generation of viewers".

The app, designed by Playground Serious Fun, will first launch in Mexico on 5 May 2015, premiering later across Latin America, including Brazil with a Portuguese version, and the US Hispanic market. Initially, the BBC's SVOD mobile service will include episodes of Charlie and Lola, Sarah and Pato and The Numtums, gradually adding more episodes and series dubbed into Spanish.
