Cablevision becomes first cable MSO to offer Hulu

Cablevision is ramping up its embrace of over-the-top (OTT) by becoming the first pay-TV provider to distribute the Hulu service.
"The partnership with Hulu reflects Cablevision's desire to meet customers where they are," said Cablevision COO Kristin Dolan.
Pricing and time frame haven't yet been announced. Hulu – jointly owned by NBCUniversal, Disney and Fox – prices its Hulu Plus product at $7.99 per month, and offers current programming from five broadcast networks as well as a back catalogue.
"At Hulu we believe users should have the ability to consume their favourite content, when, where and how they want," said Tim Connolly, senior vice president, distribution at Hulu. "Even with the rapid growth in streaming, there is a huge audience that consumes television through their cable provider, and we want to be there for them too."
Cablevision, through its Optimum-branded products and services, recently launched several new 'cord cutter' product offers, including a high speed broadband package designed for OTT video enthusiasts. It is also the first cable MSO to offer the OOTT HBO Now service.
