ESPN, FOX lead LATAM sports broadcasts

US-based networks ESPN and FOX lead pay-TV sports programming across Latin America, both regarding subscriptions and areas covered, according to the latest report from Business Bureau.

deportesbbESPN and FOX top audience figures for sports in the 17 countries analysed, in which local signals such as TyC Sports, Bandsports, SporTV 2, Woohoo, CDF, Televisa Deportes Network, TV Max, Gol and CDN Sports Max are also strong in specific territories.

The Dominican Republic is the Latin American country with highest number of available sports signals (68), followed by Mexico (46), Colombia (42) and Honduras (42). According to Business Bureau, such figures point to the great importance of sports programming for pay-TV platforms.

Regarding HD signals, the Dominican Republic again tops the ranking with 17 channels, followed by Mexico (15), Colombia (14) and Guatemala (14). Looking only at HD networks, OFF HD, covering extreme sports, is the third most watched signal after ESPN and FOX, reaching 19 million homes across the region.

The report was carried out using the CHANNEL BENCHMARKS tool, a new report method aiming to analyse the different genres within pay-TV. "CHANNEL BENCHMARKS SPORTS is the result of a great effort in analysis and delivers a source of strength for sports programming," said Horacio Gennari, president at Business Bureau.
