Growing more than any other telecom business in Peru and showing a clear lead in the pay-TV market, Telefónica's Movistar TV is the fastest grower and most stable business of Telefónica's pay-TV unit in Latin America.

According to the latest financial report published by the telco, the pay-TV subs base grew by 14.5% during the last year, reaching one million subs in a market with less than 1.5 million legal subs - a further 1.5 million are reported to be getting pay-TV through illegal operators. Thus, Telefónica's pay-TV holds a strong position in Peru, far above its nearest competitors, DIRECTV and Claro.

Pay-TV became one of Peru Telefónica's most profitable business as incomes grew by 6.5% between Q1 2014 and Q1 2015.

Telefónica's growth in pay-TV is due to, according to the company, to the new services and residential offers it launched last year, such as Movistar Playas, offering HD satellite packages as well as rights management for Hollywood blockbusters.
