Zee takes India's entertainment to LATAM, US Hispanics

India's Zee Entertainment Enterprises is to launch two new pay-TV channels under the ZEE brand throughout Latin America and the US, targeting the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking population.

The channels, focused on entertainment and lifestyle programming, will be completely re-edited and dubbed into Spanish and Portuguese.

Zee is one of the strongest entertainment groups in India, producing and broadcasting series, soap operas and talent shows through a network of 34 channels, on which it also airs Bollywood blockbusters.

"We carried both quantitative and qualitative research across the region's main markets, including Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, and identified great opportunities to launch two linear channels on pay-TV across LATAM and the US Hispanic market," pointed out Punit Goenka, president of Zee Entertainment Enterprises.

Zee's Latin American operations will be coordinated from the company's headquarters in Mumbai and supported by a team in Miami, with the aim of opening offices in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina in a second expansion phase.

The group, which has over 150,000 hours of self-produced pieces of content, has also sold its India-produced series and movies to countries including Russia, the UK, South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
