Australian online streaming service Stan is on track to gain 200,000 subscribers with an aim of attracting between 300,000 and 400,000 by December 2015.
Greg Hywood, CEO of Fairfax Media – one of the joint venture partners behind Stan – disclosed the figures at the Macquarie Australia Conference in Sydney.
The subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service, which launched earlier this year, is co-owned by Nine Entertainment. Stan has content deals with CBS, SBS (The Killing, The Bridge, Hautifim), Sony (Better Call Saul, Transparent) and MGM (Fargo, The Hobbit).
The service faces increasing competition in the SVOD space, after Foxtel and Seven West Media launched local rival Presto in January, and US giant Netflix unleashed its Australian video streaming service in March.
