Pay-TV operator StarTimes has added five entertainment channels with an African focus to its Kenyan bouquet.
The subscription channels – iROKO Play, iROKO Plus, African Movie Channel Series (AMC), StarTimes Zone and sports channel Sports Focus – will each feature exclusive content.
"The new channels are a culmination of research efforts aimed at identifying content that Kenyans can identify with, complementing the StarTimes Swahili channel that has proved popular," said Mark Lisboa, vice president for marketing, StarTimes.
AMC airs TV soaps, comedy and drama from Nollywood and across Africa, 24-hours a day. New series are added every three months, to ensure both fresh and evergreen programming.
The iROKO channels draw on the distributor's vast library of 6,000 Nollywood movies, with iROKO Plus showing premium films and iROKO Plus mainly classic titles.
StarTimes Zone offers Hollywood action films and popular African movies, as well as TV talk shows, reality shows, children's cartoons, and magazine programmes.
Its Sports Focus channel provides a 90-minute sport news content block daily as well as sport magazine shows.
The Chinese-owned pay-TV platform's premium sports channels have also recently been boosted with the live local rights for top flight German Bundesliga football, International World Rally Championships and the World Boxing Titles
