Movistar TV doubles up HD offer in Latin America

Aiming to strengthen its position as HD leader in Latin America, Telefónica's pay-TV platform Movistar TV is to double its portfolio of HD signals.
telefonicahispamAccording to Luis Delamer, director of Telefónica's video unit for Hispanic-America, speaking at the NexTV Summit South America, the 70-plus HD channels are already available in Colombia and Chile, and will soon arrive in Peru and Venezuela.
"In 2014, Telefónica's operations managed to become an HD reference for Latin America's main markets, where our clients appreciate HD as an added value to our video service," said Delamer. "We are now doubling up our offer, aiming to deliver a better, more complete entertainment experience".
Movistar TV's new offer includes the HD channels of Nick, H2, TNT Series, VH1, TyC Sports and GolTV as well as premium networks such as Fox and UFC.
With HD becoming increasingly popular across Latin America, Movistar TV has been leading the sector during the past year, after increasing its HD business by 140% in 2014.
