TV services provided a welcome boost to OTE’s performance both in its home market Greece and in neighbouring Romania in the first quarter.

In the former, the number of subscribers receiving IPTV or satellite offers at the end of March stood at 366,846, or 31.6% more than in the same period last year. Meanwhile, Telekom Romania saw its TV subscriber total (DTH, IPTV and cable) increase by 3.2% to 1,413,921 over the same period.

In Greece, the number of TV customers grew by 13,000 just in the first quarter. The acquisition of the three-year broadcasting rights for European football UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League is expected provide further impetus for growth in the second half of the year.

In Romania, TV revenues increased by 9.1% year-on-year, offsetting a decline in those from retail fixed services.

OTE had revenues of€940.8 million in Q1, down 2.4% on the same period last year. EBITDA amounted to €320 million (-3.4%) and adjusted net income €53.9 million (-27.6%).

Separately, OTE has launched OTE TV GO, allowing viewers to watch OTE TV premium content, as well as advanced services such as OTE Replay TV and OTE Cinema On demand, on their mobiles and tablets.

OTE TV GO is initially available as a pilot to 50,000 subscribers and will be gradually expanded to the entire customer base.
