IHS: Netflix West Euro subs to double by 2019

Throwing aside any lingering issues regarding content acquisition costs to meet demand, analyst IHS is predicting a boom for Netflix in Western Europe over the next four years.
netflix W euroNoting that it already spends more money on content than the BBC, HBO and Discovery, the analyst expects Western Europe to account for 23% of all of the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) firm's customers by the end of 2019. This would represent around 21 million subscriptions, almost double the current figure, and seven times that gained in only 2013. Between 2014 and 2019, the growth rate of Netflix customers in Western Europe will be double the global average and more than three times that in the US.
In terms of individual territories, the UK is set to lead the way in terms of current and future growth with the market set to increase by a factor of 2.5 in the years to 2019. However IHS calculates that the Netherlands, Germany and Austria are set to establish the fastest growth rates in the period, growing 500% from launch to 2019. By 2019 the analyst also expects that Netflix with have almost 60% penetration in Scandinavia.
