Netflix ups basic UK monthly subs fee

All that great content doesn't come free; in fact leading subscription video-on-demand service Netflix has just raised prices of its basic standard definition offering.
Netflix origcontnetThe hike was confirmed in a letter to customers which said: "In order to continue adding more TV programmes and films, including great Netflix series such as House of Cards and Better Call Saul, we are increasing our price for new members."
The new tariffs will take the entry level price point of the service £6.99 a month to £7.49, but only for new customers while existing customers' agreements will be valid for the next twelve months. The move may have huge positive outcomes for Netflix given that recent IHS research has revealed the strategic importance of the UK for the SVOD firm.
It showed that the UK is set to lead the way for Netflix in Western Europe in terms of current and future growth with the market set to increase by a factor of 2.5 in the years to 2019, compared with a regional average of around 2.0.
