German commercial broadcast group Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland wants to launch a TV channel for viewers in international markets.

The German media authorities’ licencing commission ZAK granted the green light for the new channel dubbed RTL International at its latest assembly in Saarbrücken.

RTL International will be a general interest service with selected original productions from the areas of information and entertainment and distributed as a pay-TV offering, according to ZAK.

With ProSiebenSat.1 Welt, competing media group ProSiebenSat.1 has been providing an international pay-TV channel for German-speaking viewers around the world for many years.
