Nhan Dan Television has begun test broadcasts on Vietnamese cable and IPTV networks ahead of its official launch on 2 September, Vietnam's National Day.
The 24-hour channel – an offshoot of the newspaper owned by the Communist Party of Vietnam – is now available on cable on VTV, VTC and HcaTV or via VNPT's IPTV service MyTV.
Nhan Dan's editor-in-chief Thuan Huu said the channel would secure an important position amongst domestic viewers, given the reputation carved by the newspaper during the past 60 years.
Nhan Dan TV has been in the pipeline for two years, Thuan Huu, told reporters at a launch event.
Staff at the channel had an overall goal to establish Nhan Dan TV as a major channel for a national audience, Dinh Nhu Hoan, director of Nhan Dan TV was quoted as saying on Vietnam Breaking News.
