Canadian IPTV provider VMedia has tapped broadband network management firm Sandvine to guarantee quality of experience for its video customers.

The service provider delivers a whole home entertainment experience, encompassing linear TV, over the top content, video on demand and other apps on their TV via a single set top box. With streaming media being so important to subscribers, VMedia said that it chose to deploy Sandvine's Traffic Management to ensure that during times of network congestion, subscribers will have the best possible experience when streaming VMedia's IPTV service, or over-the-top (OTT) video services such as Netflix or CraveTV.

In addition to traffic management, VMedia has also deployed Sandvine's Network Security offering in order to detect and mitigate distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks which operators are increasingly a target of and which could negatively impact the streaming experience of their subscribers.

"Sandvine's Network Security is an essential part of our security portfolio, which we rely on to protect subscribers and the integrity of the network infrastructure," said Alexei Tchernobrivets, CEO of VMedia.
