Banijay, Zodiak Media agree merger

International entertainment companies Banijay Group and Zodiak Media have agreed terms to unite their catalogues and production units, which are already active throughout Europe.
With revenues of around $1 billion, the merger will create one of the world's biggest independent production and distribution companies, and the largest not controlled by a media group.
Once the merger is concluded, Stéphane Courbit, from Banijay's lead shareholder LOV Group, will be named chairman and Marco Bassetti, formerly Banijay's director, will be appointed CEO of the new company.
The new group will have a footprint in more than 18 territories, producing entertainment, drama, factual programming, reality entertainment, docu-drama, children's and animation. As an example, In Spain, Banijay owns Cuarzo Producciones and DLO, while Zodiak controls Magnolia TV.
An extensive sales arm will handle worldwide distribution and licensing rights for both in-house and third party content.
