Atresmedia's new free-to-air (FTA) signal in Spain, Mega, has achieved the network's best debut on digital terrestrial television (DTT), reaching an average 2.1% audience share, becoming the group's third most watched channel after its main channels Antena 3 and laSexta.
While many DTT signals are struggling to exceed the 2% share, Mega has finished its first month on air surpassing this barrier.
Mega, which is replacing Mediapro's GolT on the schedule, is Atresmedia's fifth channel on the Spanish DTT scene. The media group had three more networks (laSexta 2, Xplora and Nitro), which were forced to close in May 2014 during Spain's DTT blackout.
In addition to Mega's debut, Antena 3 ended July with an average 12.6% share, becoming the most watched channel during weekends, while laSexta reached an average 6.5% share. The most watched shows were Mediapro-produced Vis a Vis, with 3.1 million viewers and a 19.4% share, and Sin Identidad, watched by 2.43 million viewers. Both shows were broadcast on Antena 3.
