Brazilian OTT market sees diversification

With 43 platforms already offering over-the-top (OTT) video in Brazil, the market continues to diversify, according to latest report from Business Bureau.

The Business Bureau Multiscreens, Platforms & Contents report says that 29,000 films and 5,000 series are available online across Brazil's OTT platforms, which offer live streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) content. Actually, only 11 platforms have a complete live offer, with Niibo (with 14 streamed live signals) and Globosat Play Brasil (nine signals) leading the streaming sector.

Regarding available content, iTunes has the most online movies (5,700), followed by Net Now Brasil (4,300), Claro Video Brasil (2,800) and Sky Brazil (2,550). Net Now is also the platform with the most series on-demand (800 titles), followed by Sky (600), Netflix (540) and Claro Video (500).

According to Business Bureau's report, the average cost of OTT video services in Brazil is around $6, and a single VOD premiere is around $1.5-$2, depending on how new it is and the video quality.

Focusing on the Brazilian audiovisual industry, the consultancy firm published another report last week stating that Latin America's largest pay-TV market accounts for nearly six million pirate or under-reported connections, representing over 20% of the entire sector.
