Following a strong campaign across social media and counting on the support of the regional government, Ibiza's citizens have made Viacom step back and cancel MTV's Ibiza Shore, which was due to be filmed on the island.

“Due to several circumstances we cannot control, the next series of the Shore franchise won't be filmed in Ibiza”, said MTV in an official statement. “But we are happy to announce the format will be produced in another place still to be decided, as there are many other Shores besides Ibiza”.

The decision to cancel the show follows a petition signed by 24,000 Ibiza residents, including public institutions and local companies.

The campaign started on 20 July, right after Viacom's MTV had made public its decision had made public its decision to return the format to live TV, shooting its sixth edition after Jersey Shore, Geordie Shore, Warsaw Shore, Gandía Shore and Acapulco Shore.
